Linking People within Organizations through Stories
No matter how vast the company, stories can make connections

Many of the organizations Axiom News partners with through its Stakeholder News services are large entities spread out over vast distances, and these clients speak regularly of the value of the stories as tools drawing the organization’s people together.

The Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools or Community Living Ontario, for example, have thousands of stakeholders spread out across the province.

Brookfield Lepage Johnson Controls is a property management firm working in the largest cities and smallest rural locales from coast to coast to coast in Canada.

Tetra Tech WEI (TT WEI), which until recently was known as Wardrop Engineering, was founded in Winnipeg more than 50 years ago. In early 2009, when Wardrop joined Tetra Tech, it grew to a team of around 12,000 people globally.

As a business development manager based out of TT WEI’s mining and minerals division in Toronto, Bill Crilly spoke to Axiom News earlier this year about the importance of team members being given the opportunity to see how they fit in the bigger picture.

“I think (the news service has) been used as a great communications tool so people are aware of some of the benefits of being part of this larger group,” he says.

“If I know of someone that’s involved in a project or some initiative that’s going on that somehow affects what I’m chasing, we can make that connection and really help to increase our chances of success in pursuing a certain client or project.”

BLJC facilities manager John Cookson spoke in similar terms about the news as a vehicle that connects everyone within the organization.

“Because we’re such a large company and we’re nationwide, (the news service) is one way of learning about what other people are doing and things that are happening within the company that you may never know about,” John says.

It also helps him “get to know some different names throughout the company,” he adds.

He enjoys seeing stories that explain how people within BLJC are working towards making the world a better place, either in charity work or through environmental initiatives — values the company as a whole espouses, he says.
