Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada Joins the ‘Twitter’Verse

Using social media tool to listen, learn from healthcare conversations

The Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC) has something to tweet about.

The reciprocal, which provides services to Canadian, not-for-profit, health-care organizations, recently joined the “Twitter”verse, making its foray into social media.

Through its Twitter account, @HIROCGROUP, the reciprocal plans to share healthcare-related stories, post news about HIROC programs and services and connect with subscribers.

“We will be listening in and learning from conversations about issues that we deal with everyday — healthcare, patient safety, reducing risk and lowering costs,” HIROC communications and marketing manager Ellen Gardner tells Axiom News.

The dialogue has already started amongst HIROC subscribers, partners and stakeholders and the platform provides an additional way “to draw attention to the important work being done by our subscribers,” Ellen adds.

Being on Twitter will also help HIROC gather valuable feedback, in real time, about the services it offers.

As time goes on, “we would ultimately hope to enhance our profile as a leader in our fields of healthcare liability insurance and risk management,” Ellen says.

“More people are watching social media than any other medium.”

Almost two-thirds of 35-54 year olds and more than 40 per cent of Canadians aged 55 and older are now actively using social media, HIROC notes.

“We see social media as a dynamic forum that will enable us to connect with different audiences than our usual communications and it will also help us monitor what’s going on out there,” adds HIROC CEO Peter Flattery.
